Congratulations on your engagement! Weddings are a special and joyful time for brides and grooms, for their families and for the parish community. The Church welcomes its members to celebrate their wedding in the context of our prayer as Christians.
Great care is taken to insure that the wedding ceremony is reverent, graceful, beautiful, and open to the movement of God's Spirit among us. We celebrate as a community, gathering our brothers and sisters in faith and asking for their prayerful support. In this spirit, St. Augustine Cathedral parish provides the guidelines found below to help the couple better prepare to enter into this Covenant. As you read through this book together, please use the back page to record the questions you undoubtedly will have.
It is the mind of the Church that, as a rule, weddings be celebrated in the parish church of either the Catholic groom or Catholic bride. Exceptions, therefore, are to be made only when just reasons may dictate a celebration in another Catholic Church. The physical aesthetics of one’s parish church, proximity to reception venues, and other material observations should not dictate the request for a wedding celebration at the Cathedral Church.
Weddings may be celebrated by active parishioners of the Cathedral who have been regularly attending Mass and have been registered for six months prior to setting their wedding date. Children or grandchildren of currently registered, active members are also welcome to celebrate their wedding at the Cathedral.
All music is planned in consultation with the Director of Music and Liturgy and the Cathedral organist will play all wedding unless an alternative has been approved. A $250.00 fee is charged for these services. This fee is applicable even if an approved outside musician is used.
Weddings at the Cathedral are celebrated on Saturdays at 1:00PM or on Fridays after the last Mass for the Day.
